Visit Historic Goliad!
Nestled in the San Antonio River Valley amongst magnificent old growth oaks, Goliad is a place of nature,
history and heritage.
Goliad is home to the beautifully restored Presidio La Bahia and Mission Espiritu Santo (Holy Spirit). Built in 1749, they represent the only Spanish Colonial mission-fort complex in existence in the Western Hemisphere and played crucial roles in Texas history.
The complex around the Presidio La Bahia is also home to the gravesite of Colonel Fannin and his men and to the birthplace of General Ignacio Zaragoza.
The Mission Espiritu Santo is located on the grounds of Goliad State Park. This 188 acre park on the banks of the San Antonio River offers outstanding recreational activities and facilities. The park is a stopping point on the Goliad Paddling Trail, a 6.6-mile river trail for canoes and kayaks that ends at the State Park.
No trip to Goliad would be complete without a visit to the charming Courthouse Square - home to the historic courthouse, restaurants, antique and gift shops, historical markers, and the famous hanging tree. Just south of the Courthouse Square, down Market St, is the start of the 2 mile "Angel of Goliad" Hike and Bike Trail.
